I decided to streamline my web presence by adding my blog, which was running as a separate site, to my main website (mikikosmado.com).
So I took a look at Elegant Themes’ support article to import posts & pages from one WordPress site to another:
Elegant Themes offers a great article on its blog on How to Use the WordPress Import Tool.
How to Import Posts & Pages from One WordPress Website to Another
The WordPress Import Tool allows users to import website content directly from WordPress websites and other platforms. In addition to WordPress, you can import content from:
- Blogger
- Categories and Tags Converter
- LiveJournal
- Movable Type and TypePad
- RSS
Export the Posts and Pages from the old website
The WordPress Import Tool allows users to import website content directly from WordPress websites and other platforms.
Before starting the import, we need to export the data from the second website first.
- Login to the website from where the data (posts and pages) you want to be exported and imported to the new WordPress website
- Go to WordPress Dashboard → Tools → Export
- Choose All Content under the Choose what to export option
- Click on the Download Export File button.
- This will create a .xml file, which will contain all the data.
Import the Posts and Pages to the new website
Now that all my posts are ready to be imported, I did the following:
- Log in to the new website where you want to import the exported content
- Go to WordPress Dashboard → Tools → Import
- Choose the WordPress option
- Select the .xml file, which was created previously with the export
- Assign the new content to your current WordPress username.
And voilà! My blog was up and running in seconds after a few adjustments
The entire process of adding my blog to my site took me only about two hours, including the time to adjust the pages, links, modules, and media.
